Brave Search Enhances Programming Queries with New AI-Powered CodeLLM

Brave has announced the launch of CodeLLM, a novel AI feature within its search engine designed specifically to aid programming-related searches. This new service provides users with code snippets accompanied by detailed explanations and references. Integration of CodeLLM into Brave Search means users can conveniently access it without the need to toggle between different applications.

This tool is now accessible to anyone using Brave Search, both on desktop and mobile platforms. For those who already have Brave Search set as their default search engine, using CodeLLM is as straightforward as initiating a search via the browser’s address bar. For others, visiting search.brave.com enables them to tap into the power of CodeLLM.

Brave elaborated in their blog post on how CodeLLM intelligently recognizes when a user’s query is about programming. It does so with the help of its search infrastructure which is designed to detect specific types of queries such as weather forecasts, summaries, stock prices, and now programming questions. Once such a query is identified, a widget appears atop the search results, which, when activated, prompts a response from CodeLLM.

The underlying framework of CodeLLM is rooted in Mixtral, a large language model (LLM) proficient in interpreting text prompts and generating corresponding code.

This progression in AI-powered search tools comes on the heels of the release of Brave's assistant, Leo, which is available to all desktop users. Based on Llama 2 and Anthropic's Claude language models, Leo efficiently manages tasks that require contextual understanding, including webpage summaries, text translations, and phrase rewrites. Furthermore, Brave introduced a subscription-based version of the assistant, priced at $15 per month, which offers enhanced features such as access to more advanced LLMs and increased usage limits.

Since the inception of Brave Search two years ago, it has witnessed significant growth, now handling an average of 25 million searches daily. With Brave boasting over 60 million users, many of whom have adopted Brave Search as their go-to search engine, this new addition of CodeLLM is set to further cement its position in the search engine market.
