In Upcoming Zelda Titles, Players Might Have The Opportunity To Control Zelda As A Playable Character

It's not uncommon to have grown up mixing up Link with Zelda, especially since the games are titled The Legend of Zelda, yet feature Link as the main character. Even the franchise's long-time producer, Eiji Aonuma, acknowledges that the character title situation is somewhat unconventional.

In a conversation with IGN about whether we might one day play as Zelda herself, Aonuma expressed openness to the idea for upcoming entries in the series:

"It's interesting to note that although Link is the character players control, the series is titled The Legend of Zelda. Zelda has been consistently present and important, sharing a special connection with Link and adhering to particular dynamics in each game. But I do think there's always an opportunity to ponder over these elements and Zelda's part in them. So, yes, exploring the potential for the player to take on the role of Zelda could happen at some point down the line."
